St Francis College garden - latest update!

Potatoes have personalities too :-)

The grade 7's got a chance to garden and were excited to get their hands dirty ... as long as there was a tap nearby to wash them!!

The water tank, fully functional, thanks to Jasmine and Zack's mum and dad.

Mielies interplanted with bean seeds. The runner beans will use the mielie stalks as support to climb up, as in Jack and the Beanstalk!

Caelim took special care of his potato man over the holidays!

There was planting, weeding, nourishing the soil with compost and making new beds today - many hands make light work.

Helping Norman make the new beds with recycled planks found in Justin's yard.

Newspaper makes a good first layer in a new bed.

Collecting sand for the new beds and adding to beds. Not forgetting that someone has to carry it!

Preparation for the water tank. The base made. Cement done and lots of fun had! New guttering was donated to the school to attach to the water tank.
Base all ready for cement.
Tank ready and waiting.

Please can I put my initials on it?

Many hands make light work!
Guttering kindly donated to the school.

We found a strange fungus growing among the seedlings, we had no idea what it was!

It was hard work picking out the fungus from in amongst our precious new seedlings!

Working hard together to get rid of the fungus.
A couple of  happy gardeners involved in all the hard work!

Mole hills make fantastic soil!

Boonzaier family garden.

Hi, this is the Boonzaier family garden and today we'd like to share some things that we've made from our veggie garden. Here are some peas, lettuce and carrots that we used to make a yummy salad - here it is with our dinner!

Ella watering. All of the water comes from our kloof dam.

Jemma and Ella made lemon cordial to sell in our mum's veggie boxes. Some of it is sold, the rest is drunk!
